Museum railway Nördlingen - Gunzenhausen

The route from Nördlingen to Gunzenhausen can look back on a glorious past: it was opened in 1849 as part of the "Ludwigs-Süd-Nordbahn" from Lindau to Hof. It was only when the direct route between Donauwörth and Treuchtlingen was paved in 1906 that the route became quiet again. In 1985 the German Federal Railroad ceased traffic, and in 1996 DB Cargo stopped operating goods traffic in Wassertrüdingen. The route runs gently embedded in the landscape from Nördlingen in a north-easterly direction to Gunzenhausen. To the right and left of the tracks there are many little things to discover, for example the old railway bridge over the Wörnitz in Oettingen. Gunzenhausen is already part of the well-known "new Franconian lake district" and is located directly on the Altmühlsee.
